MEET CHAPTER K’S COY FOR 2008 Hello, we are Jim and Betty McInish, Chapter-K’s Couple of the Year, 2008. What an honor it is for us to serve in this position. We hope we will be able to represent Chapter-K well. We have been married 46 years. We have one son, one daughter, and two grandchildren. Jim is a steamfitter who worked for T.V.A. He helped build Brown’s Ferry, worked at Colbert Steam Plant, and retired from TVA as assistant maintenance training coordinator at Brown’s Ferry. I was an elementary school teacher with most of my 26 years spent in a third grade classroom at Wilson High School in Lauderdale County. Jim rode bikes as a teenager but after a stint in the army, marriage, raising a family and working many years, retirement gave him time to rethink his leisure hours. His first bike was a 250 Honda Rebel. After gaining confidence on it, he traded for a 750 Honda Shadow Ace. It wasn’t long before he began eyeing something better…more comfortable. This led to the purchase of his 1500 Gold Wing Aspencade in April 2003. With new arm rest installed on the passenger seat, he proudly said to me, “Now, you don’t have to worry about falling off!” I quickly replied, “Honey, I don’t worry about falling off. I worry about falling OVER!” This was the beginning of my bike experience. Never having been on a bike before, I had a lot to learn. Thus begin our life as “Gold Wingers”. We joined Chapter-K in the spring of 2005 and after several thousand miles, we enjoy and cherish the friendships we have made. In February of 2006, Jim had the lower lobe of his left lung removed. The support he received from his Chapter-K friends was overwhelming. They were supportive, encouraging, and there for him every day. So we have seen how our relationship with GWRRA has been a positive force in our lives. After his surgery, Jim made the decision to have a trike kit put on his bike. We have loved every minute on it. We look forward to the rides, dinners, and fellowships our Chapter-K plans and hope that as Chapter-K COY we are able to repay these friends for all they have given to us. As this new year begins, we wish each and every GWRRA member safe, happy riding and many years of great fellowship. Jim & Betty McInish Chapter-K COY |
